INCEPTION TRAINING AND WORKSHOP ON THE ESTIMATION OF DEMOGRAPHIC DIVIDEND FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

"Harnessing Demographic Dividend for Sustainable Development in Nigeria Using National Transfer Accounts and the DemDev Approach," was a project sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2017, where research grants totaling 40,000 USD were awarded. In this research, we organised four weeks inception meeting and training of resources persons who were mostly directors from six major federal MDAs (Education, Health, Finance, Economic Planning, Population and NBS) on the use of (NTA) model and collation of macro data. We collated data through these resource persons and ran our analysis using R studio and DemDiv analysis to forecast demographic dividend for Nigeria in 2018 till 2100 and the report found out that the Demographic Dividend in Lagos State will disappear in 2040 while that of Nigeria will vanish in 2060. Policy options on building strong human capital and expanding productiveness within the period of DD and maintaining minimal population by birth control were suggested.
